Left may Withdraw Support
CPI general secretary A B Bardhan on Saturday accused the Congress of precipitating the recent crisis on the Indo-US nuclear deal and indicated that the Left parties might withdraw its support to the UPA even before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returned from the G-8 summit.
Bardhan and CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat were in Kolkata to attend a meeting. Karat dubbed the nuclear deal as anti-national and said that it would not solve the nation's energy problems. The Left parties would initiate a nationwide agitation from July 14 on the deal, he said.
Earlier in the morning, the CPI(M) top leadership and Politburo members including Karat, Buddhadeb Bhattacahjree and Biman Bose briefed veteran party leader Jyoti Basu on the party's plan of action.
Later, Bardhan held a press conference at the CPI office. "We had an understanding that we will not withdraw support while the prime minister is away. But there is a campaign going on against the Left. We have heard what the Congress spokesperson said about the Left parties and our letter. This is sheer arrogance. They did not even bother to give a reply to our letter," said Bardhan.
"If somebody wants to precipitate a crisis, we might have to withdraw support to the Government before the Prime Minister returns from Japan," he added. "If the Government fails to meet the deadline (July 7) to come up with an answer, the Left parties will approach the President and ask for a confidence vote in Parliament," he said.
Bardhan said the Left parties would convene a meeting on July 8 or 9 to discuss the issue and would then initiate a nationwide agitation from 14 July. He said after the pull-out Left parties would not be isolated.
"We will have no other alternative but to withdraw support if the UPA goes ahead with the deal. A rally of the Left parties will also be organised in Delhi on July 14 or 15. It will be part of our nationwide agitation on price hike and how the UPA has brought about an uncertainty in the nation. The nuclear deal will also be highlighted," said Bardhan.
Meanwhile, while speaking at the centenary celebrations of Left leader professor Hiren Mukhopadhyay, Karat dubbed the deal as anti-national.
"Our independent foreign policy will be in peril if we go for defence and military cooperation, strategic and economic partnership and the civil nuclear deal with the US," said Karat.
"Why should we enter into such a deal? Our strategic autonomy will be eroded. The 40-year agreement will be expensive. Nuclear power will be expensive, the plants will be expensive and uranium will be expensive. Moreover, after 20 years, nuclear power will only meet 8 per cent of our energy needs," said Karat, sharing the dais with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and Bardhan.

Quran and Science says end will come ... ?
3- Those who disbelieved said, “There is no coming of the Hour for us.” Say, “No, by my Lord, the knower of the unseen, it will certainly come upon you.” 34-Sheba, 3 50- If We give him a taste of mercy after suffering some adversity, he says, “This belongs to me. I do not think that the Hour will come. Even if I am returned to my Lord, I will find in Him better things.” Certainly We will inform the disbelievers of all their works and We will afflict them with severe retribution. 41-Elucidated, 50 In the first part of our work we dwelt upon the creation of the universe. The time has come now to examine the end of the world and the universe as expressed in the Quran. We are fully convinced that there has been no other book in the entire history of mankind that has given such a detailed account of the beginning and end of the world. Delve into all the books in history preceding scientific data and you will see that there is none like the Quran. It was said that the Quran would provide the signs and evidence; here they are, then! Will these not suffice for someone who is unbiased? It is man’s habit, confined in his own time bracket, to consider everything around him as constant and static. At the time of the Prophet, speaking of the end of the world, and especially of the universe, would be beyond conception. People ignorant of the fact that the world was an object flying in space, considered it a safe and sound place under their feet. They could not have believed that the day would come when everything would vanish. As the accumulation of knowledge increased, thanks to scientific discoveries, it became clear that the end of the universe and of our world was inevitable. No one of sound mind today would assert that the world will exist forever. Even if no other celestial phenomenon occurs, it is certain that once the energy of the sun is exhausted, the end of the world will become unavoidable. However, the way and the exact time of this occurrence cannot be predicted. To give you an example, the laws of thermodynamics indicate that the end will come. A stove’s heating of a room; our leaving a cup of tea to cool down are subject to this law. Especially Rudolf Clausius’s studies have led to the adoption of a measure of the unavailable energy called entropy. The total entropy continuously increases in the universe. The sun’s heat flows toward the cold of the universe and this process is irreversible...
LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS SEEN UNDER THE LIGHT OF RELIGION AND PHILOSOPHY Will this process go on forever? The answer will be “No.” When heat reaches a constant temperature, there comes about a static state called “thermodynamic balance.” The flow of heat from the sun and from the multitude of stars may last for billions of years, but it is not inexhaustible. At the end of a time bracket, the laws of thermodynamics will make the activities going on in the universe come to a standstill. Under the circumstances, we can make the following deductions: 1- That the universe had a beginning, and 2- That it will come to an end one day. All religions that have expounded belief in one God throughout history have been defenders of these two arguments. The Quran had this to say about the beginning and end of the universe. (In the first three chapters we read the miraculous statements of the Quran about the beginning of the universe.) On the other hand, materialists claim that matter has existed since eternity and will continue to exist forever and ever. In other words, they deny the beginning that led to the idea of creation and the end of the world and the universe, the sine qua non of religion. (In the two verses quoted above we saw the objections raised at the time of the Prophet against him.) When, as a result of developments in astrophysics, it became clear that the universe did have in fact, a beginning and an end, some atheists tried to fit their theories to the new discoveries. However, it is evident that before this issue was scientifically established, the atheists were against this idea. Nevertheless, despite the data provided by scientific studies, there are still atheists who refuse to believe that the universe had a beginning and that it will have an end. The laws of thermodynamics confirm the assertions of monotheistic religions. This is then the scientific evidence supporting the teachings of the three major monotheistic religions regarding the end of the world. Had the universe existed since eternity, according to the laws of thermodynamics, all actions in the entire universe would have come to a standstill by now (according to thermodynamic balance). The fact that there is still action in the universe shows that the universe had no eternal existence, but that it had a beginning. Given the fact that there is still action going on in the universe and that it had a beginning, the end of the universe must come- at least according to the laws of thermodynamics. However, it appears that we shall not have to wait for the consequence of the laws of thermodynamics (We shall come back to this point in Chapter 68 and 69).

A Complete full stop.... Many Sayings
Many have predicted apocalypse at the hand of God, war or aliens
Since the dawn of time, humankind has pondered when time will end. Knowing nothing lasts forever, hundreds, if not thousands of philosophers, scientists, religious leaders and everyday laymen have proposed their own ideas on the eventual demise of humanity.
Religion often goes hand in hand with apocalyptic forecasts. Just as many beliefs have their own creation story, their teachings usually conclude with a story about humankind's or even the Earth's final end. Possibly the most famous of all the end of the world predictions is the "Biblical Book of Revelations."
Many organizations travel around the world preaching their interpretation of "Revelations" to the masses. One such organization, the Sure Word Ministries, recently visited Tallahassee. A flyer describing their 10-night event detailed such sermons as "How Near is Armageddon and the End," "666 Part 1 and Plagues Upon the Land" and "Revelation's False Prophet and his Cult Leaders."
Surprisingly, one of the first "doomsday prophesies" predated the writing of the Bible. According to The Interactive Bible's online library of date setters of the end of the world, the ancient Thessalonians had heard Christ had returned in A.D. 53 and that "the day of the Lord was near."
The online library also lists other organizations that have attempted to warn the world of its impending conclusion. The Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, have issued predictions the world would end in 1874, 1878, 1881, 1910, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975 and 1984.
Another organization, the Jack Van Impe Ministries, predicted disaster in 2001, bringing in "international chaos such as we've never seen in our history." They further added that there will be "drought, war, malaria and hunger afflicting entire populations throughout the (African) continent," Islam would be larger than Christianity and "a one-world church will emerge, controlled by demonic hosts."
Sometimes interpretations of the Bible have directly led to conflict. The online library discusses a 16th Century German peasant named Muntzer who, along with a group of followers, thought attacking the German government would cause God to return. Muntzer believed "the Lord promised that He would catch the cannon balls of the enemy on the sleeves of His cloak." As could be predicted, Muntzer's rebellion was suppressed when they were "mowed down by cannon fire."
Even modern conflict has coincided with apocalyptic predictions. In 1991, Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan called the Gulf War "the War of Armageddon ... the final War."
Visitors from outer space have been cited as the future cause for the end of humankind, as well.
According to a Web site appropriately named "It's the end of the world as we know it ... again" (www.geocities.com/Athens/Oracle/9941), The Sacerdotal Knights of National Security announced in November 1997 that an alien had been captured. This alien cracked under CIA interrogation and "revealed his species' nefarious plan to attack with a massive space invasion force, stripping the world of every last of its natural resources and enslaving all humankind."
Opinions on the types of aliens that are planning to invade vary. California psychic Sheldon Nidle claimed that angels would join the "16 million spaceships" arriving on Earth in 1996. In stark contrast, Robert Hallman called the extraterrestrials who were planning to destroy the world in 1998 "Satan's minions."
Finally, it must be noted that even the most respected historical figures have tried their hand in doomsday predictions. Sir Isaac Newton, famous for his writings on the Law of Gravity, not only wrote that Christ would return in 1715, but according to recent news reports, he also concluded the apocalypse would occur in 2060. Newton further predicted he would be one of the many saints to rule over the earth after this apocalypse.

Will The World End on 21 Dec 2012?
Mayan Civilization (a mesoamerican civilization that existed in the 10th Millennium BC) has been steeped in mystery for hundreds of years. It is only recently that Meso-American Astrologers, Anthropologists and experts in Cuneiform script have been able to reveal the secrets contained in the mayan literature, most important of them are the Mayan Calendars.
Yes, Mayan people used more than one calendar - not just to keep track of dates but to lead a life in harmony with the Creation. And we have been told that their most important calendar called Tzolkin (which started as far back as 2114 BC (4000 years ago) suddenly comes to an end on 21st Dec 2012.
Does this portent a global catastrophe? Is the world going to come to a grinding halt? Or does this hint at something more spiritual? Lets go on a journey and figure out what the experts say.
To get close to the Mayan mindset and culture, we need to look at their calendars. There are two calendars that is of interest to us, one is called the Tzolkin - which was used to forecast the day spiritually, and the Long Count - that was used to measure period over a span of thousands of years.
The Tzolkin consists of 260 days divided into 20 Zodiac Signs (as against our 12 zodiac signs) and 13 Galactic Energies or Tones from the Sun. The 20 Zodiac Signs have a symbol but the Galactic Tones are simply referred by a number 1 to 13.
The Long Count Calendar several measurements of periods. The lowest one was called a ‘Kin’ which is roughly equivalent to 1 Day. 20 Kins make a Uinal. You can say that Mayan observed a 20-day ‘month’. The Year consisted of 18 such months or Uinals. Mayan Year was called a ‘Tun’ and had 360 days. 20 Tuns made a Katun (of 19.7 years) and 20 Katuns made a Baktun of 394 Years. They also had higher (but less used measures) like Piktun (7900 years), Kalabtun (158,000 years), Kinchiltun (3.15 Million years), Alautun (63.1 Million years) and Hablatun (1.26 Billion years). Interestingly, a Hablatun happens to be 1/13th of the 16.4 Billion years ago when the cells first appeared on the earth. You will find several patterns of 20 and 13 in the calculations above. Both the numbers were very special to the Mayan.
The Mayan believed that there were 9 Patterns of Creation (each with a Day and Night). The road to Creation is like a pyramid with 9 levels. (in fact most of the pyramids around the world including Egypt are of 9 levels!) . Each of these 9 levels represent an immensely long period of time, with each level above of shorter duration. You can imagine this as a set of vessels - the biggest vessel is at the bottom (level 1) and a vessel 20 times smaller than that is kept inside the first vessel (level 2) and so on until we reach the 9th level.
What this means is that the rate of Creation has been accelerating! What took a million years to create at one level would take only 50,000 years at the next level and 2500 years in the next… Have you ever wondered why the world around us and our life seems to be moving faster and faster?!
I will leave you with just the 9 Patterns and the period they represent to chew on….

You Could Save A Life
STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters... S...T.R . STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a party, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. (they offered to call ambulance) They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm , Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the party . Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.
Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.. It only takes a minute to read this... STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke....totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions : S * Ask the individual to SMILE . T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg 'It is sunny out today').R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. NOTE : Another 'sign' of a stroke is 1. Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue. 2. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke. A prominent cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
